Stoughton Bell's
Coast Guard Career

When Dad was 21 he was in the Coast Guard. He said he loved it, he loved being aboard a sailing ship. He trained on the cadet training ship, the Danmark, a big British ship. He was on it in the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944. They sailed in on Long Island Sound. Each sailor had a station. His sail station was the starboard main royale.
